Canberra was founded in 1908 to become the Australian capital and therefore to solve the long-lasting conflict between the two biggest cities of Australia: Sydney and Melbourne. Canberra is geographically-speaking located in the New South Wales State, but from an administrative perspective, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is self-governing. Canberra was built from scratch, with the aim of incorporating natural areas into the city, which explains why the city is often referred to as the "bush city". Being the political and administrative heart of Australia, Canberra is house of many institutions and museums. Some beautiful National Parks surround the city, like the Tidbinbilla Reserve and the Namadgi National Park. CANBERRA
